The Panasonic LS50 EBS is a great priced portable DVD player that plays a wide variety of formats, most noticeable are MP3 and VCD formats.  With 2.5 hours of playback time, it's enough for nearly all the movies out there.  The DVD player can be used for playback of MPEG files downloaded from internet, once you convert them to VCD format on your computer or just plain CDs, CDrs, JPEG images or MP3 files.
